Thoroughbred Operating Plan - Coupling Action to the Plan to Drive Performance Improvements
Over the last several years Norfolk Southern recognised a strong business requirement to handle trains on a fixed schedule versus an adhoc schedule, both to meet commercial contract requirements and to optimise their network flow. Working together, Transportation and IT looked to the evolving Data Warehouse to meet these needs. This session will cover the various steps taken and applications created to provide measures, reports and tools that enable the operating areas to be held accountable for connection and shipment performance. Using these tools, improvements are being continuously made to the operating plan, resulting in better shipment performance, increased customer satisfaction and millions of dollars in capital savings.
